Presidential Legacies: FDR in our Lives Today – Jeffrey S. Urbin, Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library & Museum – Part 2
To many, Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) is among the greatest U.S. presidents. FDR intervened during the Great Depression, led our country through World War II, and is the longest-serving president in American history. Before FDR, many Presidential papers and records were lost, destroyed, sold for profit, or ruined by poor storage conditions. FDR consulted historians and scholars for a better alternative and established a public repository to preserve all documents for future generations, turning them over to the federal government for operation through the National Archives.
