Presidential Legacies: Human Rights Advocate Eleanor Roosevelt
Eleanor Roosevelt admittedly had no legal training or expert knowledge in parliamentary procedures. But as an activist and advocate for social and economic justice, civil rights, and women’s rights, she was the perfect person to serve as a U.N. delegate and the first Chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights. In fact, the former First Lady played an instrumental role in drafting the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” using her prestige and credibility to overcome early Cold War tensions. Welcome back Jeff Urbin, Education Specialist at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, to discuss Eleanor Roosevelt’s legacy and her global leadership on human rights.
