Stoliar, to his wife and baby daughter in St. Louis during World War II. With postmarks from North Africa, Italy, France, Germany, and England, Staff Sgt. David Stoliar’s letters contain vivid war reportage, insightful analysis of anti-Semitism in Germany (as well as in the U.S.), heartwarming adventures with his dog, and heartbreaking reminders of a sorely missed family – all filtered through the prism of a secular Jew from St. Louis caught in the middle of a war against the Nazis.
